Sidetracked - New Zealand South Island - Post #206

I crossed from the North Island to the South Island, leaving Wellington, New Zealand’s capital, on a ferry through the Cook Strait. The journey offered breathtaking views of rugged coastlines and the occasional glimpse of seals basking on rocky outcrops.

The South Island greeted me with its dramatic landscapes—a place where snow-capped peaks rise above fjords, pristine waterfalls tumble into deep valleys, and dolphins play in turquoise waters. Known for its untamed wilderness and striking beauty, the South Island is a photographer’s paradise.

Highlights of my journey include exploring Fiordland’s stunning fjords from the air, spotting seals along the Kaikōura coast, and indulging in some of the world-famous wines from the Marlborough region.

While Karl’s original journey never brought him here, I couldn’t help but imagine him navigating these peaks and valleys. Though I’m sure he would have soaked in the spectacular views, the rugged terrain would have made cycling a monumental challenge! Fortunately, I had no such obstacles to enjoy this incredible destination to its fullest.
