It took Karl approximately four days by bicycle to travel 120 km through Nova Scotia to the New Brunswick border. Although Karl managed to travel about 40 km a day, the road conditions were such that he often couldn’t ride his bike and instead had to walk his bicycle, taking him longer than initially anticipated. 

In his first letter to the Truro Daily News, he wrote: “Leaving Truro on my trip around the globe on the 11th, I naturally felt a little blue, but I outgrew it all in a few hours.” In those moments of feeling blue, I wonder if Karl reconsidered his plans, knowing he had a whopping 60,000 km remaining on his journey and much more challenging terrain and roads to navigate than what he encountered in Nova Scotia.
